Uwe's Bakery & Deli and Uwe’s All-Natural are divisions of Old World Foods, LLC and herein after will be referred to as Old World Foods, LLC
Please read the following, thoroughly, you may refer back to this page at any time as a reference. The policies stated within this document are subject to change at the sole discretion of Old World Foods, LLC. From time to time, you may receive updated information concerning changes in policy.

AT WILL EMPLOYER
Old World Foods, LLC is an at will employer which applies to all phases of the employment relationship - it means that absent a statute or an express agreement (such as an employment contract) to the contrary, either party in an employment relationship may modify any of the terms or conditions of employment, or terminate the relationship altogether, for any reason, or no particular reason at all, with or without advance notice.
This handbook is not a contract, expressed or implied, guaranteeing employment for any specific duration. Although we hope that your employment relationship with us will be long term, either you or Old World Foods, LLC may terminate this relationship at any time, for any reason, with or without cause or notice.
Being an At Will Employer, we understand that at any time you may find employment elsewhere. We prefer a two-week notice but understand that may not always be the case. If you suddenly are unable to continue your working relationship with Old World Foods, LLC, we ask that you please let us know that you will not be returning to work at least 2 hours prior to your next scheduled shift. If you are unable to do this in person, please notify HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, do not send us a message via our scheduling software.
NEW HIRE FORMS AND PERSONNEL FILES
All new hires must complete the following steps prior to employment:
If you are interested in reviewing your personnel file, please submit your request to HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132. Please note that these files are the property of Old World Foods, LLC.
It is your responsibility to keep your information up to date. Please notify HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, of any of the following changes; marital status, number of dependents, and the individual(s) to notify in case of an emergency, etc.
All other changes including your mailing address, email address, and phone number must be updated by the employee in our scheduling software and payroll system, this will be discussed later on in this document.
TRIAL PERIOD
All new employee of Old World Foods, LLC are subject to a Trail Period during your first six weeks of employment. During this Trail Period you will be trained and given the opportunity to work solo. Your six-week Trial Period will be determined whether your employment at Old World Foods, LLC continues.
Please use this time to familiarize yourself with Old World Foods, LLC and our policies and benefits.
We encourage you to ask questions you may have during this time so that you will understand all the guidelines that affect and govern your employment relationship with us.
WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULES
The regular workweek for all full-time employees is more than 36 hours per week, divided into four or five days, scheduled between Thursday thru Wednesday, with employees regularly scheduled to work four to ten hours per day depending on the employee’s position and predetermined work schedule at the time of hire.
Daily and weekly work schedules may be changed from time to time at the discretion of Old World Foods, LLC to meet the varying conditions of our business. Changes in work schedules will be announced as far in advance as possible.
Schedules are sent out via our scheduling software on Tuesday, no later than 3:00 P.M., for the following work week. Please note that employees with flex and/or predetermined schedules at the time of hire may or may not be listed on the schedule.
BREAKS
Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks. We do not offer breaks, therefore if must step away to take care of personal business you must clock out. If these times are not recorded, it is viewed as fraudulent record keeping and you will be subject to immediate termination.
EARLY CLOCK-INS
We ask that you please refrain from early clock-ins (clocking in more than 5 minutes prior to your scheduled shift), this taxes our payroll and is unacceptable. If you are scheduled to come in at 9 am, please do not clock in more than 5 minutes before 9 am. Consistent early clock-ins will be subject to write up.
OVERTIME
All overtime must be approved in advance. You will receive compensation for approved overtime for all hours worked beyond the fortieth hour in any given work week.
HOLIDAYS
Unlike most food establishments we believe in allowing our employees the opportunity to spend major holidays with their family, however the time off will be unpaid, and because of this we are typically, but may not always be, closed for the following holidays.

New Year’s Day
And it is Old World Foods, LLC.'s right to deny time-off requests surrounding a holiday. Old World Foods, LLC is not required to observe holidays due to the nature of our business (Hospitality).
RECORDING WORK HOURS
It is the policy of Old World Foods, LLC to comply with applicable laws that require records to be maintained of the hours worked by our employees. To ensure that accurate records are kept of the hours you work (including overtime where applicable) and to ensure that you are paid in a timely manner, you will be required to record your time worked by clocking in and out for shifts and mealtimes through our POS system, Toast. And because we do not offer breaks, if you must step away, for any reason, you must also clock in and out through our POS system, Toast.
If, for any reason, you miss a clock in or clock please report the error to HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, immediately, so it may be corrected. Repeated failure to clock in or out, and or to report a missed clock in or clock out will be subject to write up.
PAY PROCEDURES
All employees of Old World Foods, LLC are paid by direct deposit on a bi-weekly basis, every other Monday. If a scheduled payday falls on a company-observed holiday, you will usually be paid on the day preceding the holiday. All required deductions, such as for federal, state, and local taxes, and all authorized voluntary deductions, such as federal contributions, and/or mandatory wage garnishment due to IRS liens or Child Support will be withheld automatically from your paychecks.
Your pay is based on the times that you clock in and out of the companies POS system, Toast. All time entries will be reviewed by HR (Heather Theis) on a bi-weekly basis. After reviewing times entries and resolving any discrepancies, payroll will be processed, and your paystub will immediately be available for review in our payroll system (an email will be sent out letting you know that is now available).
It is your responsibility to review your paystub for any discrepancies. If upon review, any discrepancies are found, please report them to HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, immediately. Please note that if a discrepancy is due to an incorrect clock in or out and it was not reported to HR (Heather Theis) via our scheduling software, prior to the Wednesday preceding payroll, the error will not be corrected until the following pay day. If the discrepancy was an error cause by HR (Heather Theis) it will be processed as soon as possible.
If you do not receive your paycheck via direct deposit, you may pick a handwritten paycheck up from the office after 3:00 PM on Monday. Please note that once you have taken possession of a handwritten paycheck, Old World Foods, LLC is not responsible for lost or stolen paychecks. If your paycheck is lost or stolen, please notify HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, immediately, so we can issue a stop payment on your check (you will be financially responsible for any fees associated with the stop payment). Please note that if the stop payment is unsuccessful, you alone will be responsible for such loss and Old World Foods, LLC will not reimburse you for such losses.
PAYMENT AFTER SEPARATION
If your employment with Old World Foods, LLC ends because you left your job, with or without written notice, you will receive your paycheck as you normally would, unless you are in possession of company property. If you are in possession of company property you will not be issued a paycheck until the company property that you are in possession of is returned. If the company property is not returned prior to payroll being processed, you will not receive your paycheck until the company property that you are in procession of is returned.
If your employment with Old World Foods, LLC ends because your job was terminated, you will receive a paper check at the time of your dismissal, unless you are in possession of company property. If you are in possession of company property you will not be issued a paper check until the company property that you are in possession of is returned.
AVAILABILITY AND REQUESTS FOR TIME OFF
If you are only available to work at certain times of day or only on certain days, please update your availability within our scheduling software, this will immediately allow us to see when you are available to work. If you are scheduled to work and are unavailable but did not update your availability within the scheduling software, it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your shift.
Please note that if your availability changes and no longer able meets the requirements of the position that you were hired for, your employment with Old World Foods, LLC may be terminated. If your availability changes due to illness or other issues beyond your control, please contact HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, to discuss an alternative schedule that work for both you and Old World Foods, LLC.
All requests for time off must be made via our scheduling software, two weeks in advance. If your request is made after the schedule has been posted, it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your shifts and coverage must be completed via the scheduling software.
Please note that we will try to make every effort to work around your scheduled, as much as possible, however if your request for time off conflicts with scheduling, it may be denied. It is the right of Old World Foods, LLC to deny any and all requests for time off surrounding a working holiday such as Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Labor Day, etc.
ILLNESS AND UNFORSEEN ABSENCES
If you become ill, and know at least 24 hours prior to your next scheduled shift, please request someone to cover your shift within the scheduling software and then contact HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, and let us know you will be unable to work your scheduled shift.
If you experience an unforeseen absence, please make an attempt to call, not text, the bakery 2 hours prior to your scheduled shift, and report your absence. If you are unable to do this yourself, we ask that have someone else do it for you. If you or someone else, on your behalf, does not report your unforeseen absences, it will be considered a no call no show. No call no shows are considered job abandonment and are subject to immediate termination.
Please note that if you experience an absence of more than five consecutive days due to illness or illness of someone you care for; you must supply a doctor note upon your return to work. COVID-19 related absences will be handled as follows.
UNIFORMS
In order to protect our staff and customers from exposure to COVID-19, all employees must wear a mask when unable to maintain a 6-foot distance from other employees or customers.
Front of House
· Cloth face covering or medical grade mask
· Black, non-printed t-shirt or an Uwe’s Bakery & Deli logo t-shirt; first T-shirt is provided, additional shirts are available for
purchase for $8.50
· Dark or khaki jeans or Capri pants
· Black non-slip shoes
Back of House
· Cloth face covering or medical grade mask
· Jeans or Capri pants due to health code
· Black non-slip shoes
· Cooks and Bakers should wear aprons; available for purchase for $3.00
· Dishwasher should wear waterproof aprons provided by Old World Foods, LLC
· Cap/hat or hair net
Your uniform must be clean at the beginning of each shift and must be free from holes and /or visible wear.
PAYROLL SOFTWARE
As mentioned above, you will not receive a paper copy of your paystubs, your paystub and W2's will be available online at QuickBooks Workforce
QuickBooks Workforce will allow you to view and print your paystubs and W2's . It allows you to update your personal information, email address, phone number, and mailing address.
In order to use QuickBooks Workforce, you will need to accept your invitation to our companies Workforce account. This invitation will be emailed to the email address that was listed on your employment application. If you do not receive the invitation in your email, please first check your junk mail and if you still cannot find the invitation you should then contact HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, so another attempt can be made.

SCHEDULING SOFTWARE
As mentioned above, your schedule is sent out and available for view via HomeBase. HomeBase is a phone application and a website that allows employees to view their schedules, request time off, trade shifts, cover shifts, pick up open shifts, and allows you to let us know what your work availability is.
All employees are required to utilize HomeBase.
In order to use HomeBase you will need to accept your invitation to our companies HomeBase account. This invitation will be emailed to the email address that was listed on your employment application. If you do not receive the invitation in your email, please first check your junk mail and if you still cannot find the invitation you should then contact HR (Heather Theis), via text at 830-237-1132, so another attempt can be made.

CELL PHONE USAGE
Cell phone usage, unless it is for business purpose, are not allowed while you are on duty and clocked in. If you are seen using your cell phone, you will be written-up, the third write-up will be termination. The reason for this is because it is a Health Code Violation. Cell phones are dirty, they go everywhere with people, including in the bathroom. The only exception to this rule is for managers and/or other authorized employees (an example of an authorized employee would be Andi and Susie, they are allowed to use their phones for translation purposes, but then should promptly put them away). We understand that you have children and/or family that may need to reach you while you at work, but please have them call the bakery. Once they have reached you on the bakery phone, you’re welcome to take a break to return their call.
